We found ourselves walking to the Isoka Baptist Fellowship Church
on August 21, 2016 with the Kimbrough family.
“But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of
the flesh.” Galatians 5:16
Culturally, in Zambian churches, the men sit on
one side and the women on the other, so I found myself happily sitting with Isaac
and Amos during worship trying to sing from a Bemba songbook. American tunes were recognized, but the words
not so much!
“Make a joyful noise to the LORD, all the earth! Serve the LORD with gladness! Come into his presence with singing!” Psalm 100:1-2
Notice the
condition of this modern Zambian classroom as the church meets in a room of the
Isoka Primary educational complex every Sunday for Sunday School and worship.
“Do your best to present yourselves to
God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling
the word of truth.” 2 Timothy 2:15
After worship, members and guests visit under
the covered porch of the school room used for worship.
“And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the
fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.” Acts 2:42
The last three
photographs show the progress made on this church’s new building. In February 2013, Ocker Brethren Church of
Temple, Texas generously gave the funding needed to complete the purchase of
the land the new building will one day occupy. This building site is in a prime
location with many new folks moving into an area where the greatest growth is happening
in Isoka.. The church leaders in Isoka asked me to send a
big THANK YOU for Ocker’s faithfulness in giving.
“Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not
reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” 2 Corinthians 9:7
